1 Start looking at prom gowns. Look through stores, online catalogs, clothing catalogs and pattern books at fabric stores. 2 Examine your sample cloth. Think about what you like about the clothes and what you don't like. Consider how you would alter the dress to suit you. 5 Make sketches of your dress using different parts of different patterns and of your existing dress. Take time to dream about the dress draw many different options. Your individual dress design will begin to emerge.
6 Have your dress made. If you are experienced at sewing, you can create your own prom dresses. If not, check with friends, and family members for a tailor who will be flexible and work with you on your design ideas.
